I have another IDEA -
How about having a file called captions.txt that would be of the format
filename.jpg:Long Description of what this file is Then, if there is a caption for a particular picture, it would use this caption instead of the filename. That way, the file name could be a normal-looking file, while the description displayed would be more informative (ie - who is in the picture etc...)

I was going to do something similar, if there was a .txt file, and when I'm displaying the full picture in my script, I was going to put that caption under the big picture. It's easy to do what you said also, so I'll add that capability to this

caption.txt file.

Probably just add an __END__ tag to this file everything
in front of the __END__ is this file, everything after is
in the form you said:
file1.jpg: This is Bob
file2.jpg: This is Suzi



Hi my name is caption.txt I live in the same directory
as the pictures.  Notice that any html tags in here will
show up on the web page.

Oh yea, one more thing, if you'd like I can easily rename
all your files and take out the 1998-xxx as you can put the 
1998 reunion in the directory name and this file
